UConn Trustees to Vote on Stamford Housing Agreement

The proposal would bring 116 units of housing to the Stamford campus.

Stamford, CT- The University of Connecticut Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote on a proposal that would bring 116 housing units to the city for the school's campus.

UConn expects about 290 students to live there and there is a maximum capacity of 350 students, according to a release.

It would be the first time the Stamford campus has housing. The proposal calls for housing at 900 Washington Boulevard starting in fall 2017.

Trustees will vote July 20 at the Stamford campus.

Only about 100 of the 1,565 students enrolled at the Stamford campus live in Stamford, according to a UConn report. The average cost of a one-bedroom apartment in the city is $1,900 per month and a two-bedroom is $2,700 per month.

UConn intends to recoup costs by charging students $995 per month for a shared room and $1,248 per month for a non-shared room.

Cumulative losses during a ramp up period where students are drawn to the housing are expected to be between $750,000 to $1 million.
