STAMFORD, CT — A woman accused of trying to strike another woman with her car was arrested Saturday, according to police. Sgt. Michael Franzetti said Maritza Guzman-Vargas, 57, of Stamford, was parked outside a woman's home on Dale Street around 5: 30 p.m.

The woman, who Franzetti said has been 'stalked' by the accused for a number of years, subsequently recognized the accused's vehicle while taking her trash outside.

"When Maritza saw [the woman], she accelerated the vehicle...and attempted to run her over," Franzetti said to Patch.

The woman jumped out of the way of the vehicle, and Guzman-Vargas attempted to turn around and leave the driveway, Franzetti said. When the woman tried to block the vehicle with her body and scream for help, Guzman-Vargas accelerated again to leave and struck the woman's arm with one of the vehicle's mirrors in the process, Franzetti said.

Officers were later able to obtain the vehicle's license plate number and arrested Guzman-Vargas at her home, Franzetti said.
