Woman Dies In Mystic House Fire

One person, who was trapped on the second floor of a burning home, was rescued by firefighters but later died.

MYSTIC, CT — One person was hospitalized and another died following a house fire in Mystic on Thursday evening, according to a statement from Town of Groton police. The fire was reported at 6:42 p.m. at a home on Somersett Drive in the Mystic section of Groton.

Emergency responders arrived to find a person trapped inside a two-story house that was fully engulfed in flames. According to a police statement released Friday afternoon, Georgette DiCandia, 92, was immediately transported to L&M Hospital

DiCandia later died due to her fire-related injuries.

The second person was able to escape the home and was transported to L & M Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Fire companies from Mystic, Noank, Poquonnock Bridge, and Sub Base all responded. Mystic River and Groton Ambulance crews along with Lawrence & Memorial Medics also responded. A Salvation Army Mobile Canteen arrived on scene to assist first responders with food and beverages.

The fire is under investigation.
