2 Victims In Fatal Mystic Wreck Identified

A drunk driver allegedly struck two pedestrians in the Saturday night accident.

STONINGTON, CT — The two victims in a fatal DUI crash Saturday night have been identified, NBC Connecticut reported. Seth Wakeman, 88, and his wife, Joanna Wakeman, 78, died when they were struck by a vehicle as they attempted to cross Route 27 at the intersection with Rossie Pentway.

Both pedestrians were taken to Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London where they died as a result of their injuries.

The driver was Carol M. Belli, 73, of Groton. Belli was charged with DUI and released on a $600 bond.

Belli remained at the scene of the accident, which occurred near a main entrance for Mystic Seaport. She will appear in court in New London March 20.

An initial investigation determined that the Wakemans were crossing from the west side to the east side of Route 27 when they were hit by Belli's vehicle, according to NBC.
