After 26 Years Blaney Family Puts Sea Swirl Up For Sale

Sea Swirl Closed For The Season Sunday

Hopefully, you got your fix of ’s fried clams and soft serve ice cream this summer. The iconic clam shake on Route 1 in Mystic closed for the season Sunday and owner David Blaney said the restaurant is for sale.

“It’s time to retire,” said Blaney, who with has wife has owned and managed the restaurant for 26 years.

According to Blaney the restaurant has been on the market all summer and there are four interested parties in buying the spot. Blaney said they are currently negotiating with one party, but he has no idea what if any changes the potential new owners would make.

David’s daughter Maura Blaney said that Sea Swirl closed early for the season Sunday because the restaurant was short staffed. Traditionally, Sea Swirl has stayed open through the baseball season.
