Reisman, author, reporter and triathlete, will discuss “5 Months 10 Years 2 Hours.” Mystic resident, former Runner’s World editor-in-chief and 1968 Boston Marathon winner Amby Burfoot will kick off the event with an introduction of Reisman.

When a disillusioned New York attorney Lisa Reisman decides to leave the law, buy a lipstick red convertible, and hit the road, she doesn’t expect to wake up in a hospital room with a malignant brain tumor and a prognosis of one year to live.

What do you do after being diagnosed with a glioblastoma and given less than a year to live? You spend 5 months getting treatment and expecting to die. One year passes and you are told you will live. You then spend 10 years searching for how to live your life in the aftermath of cancer.

Reisman lived this tragedy. And after 10 years of searching she conquers her fears and launches her new life by completing a triathlon in 2 hours, learning cancer survival is not only a triumph but it is a test of endurance, forbearance, and determination.

Reisman is a Connecticut freelance journalist. She spends her new life working to highlight people on the Connecticut shoreline who are living inspiring lives, launching new enterprises, and making a difference in the lives of others. She also manages the Sin Sisters Band, a popular local Connecticut group with a repertoire that ranges from swing to Motown to classic rock.
