Booksigning/Talk/Walk by Artist and Mystic Native Ashley Halsey on Her New Book, Beautiful Songbirds

DPNC Executive Director Maggie Jones will lead a songbird walk immediately following at Coogan Farm, Saturday April 9

Mystic, CT (March 22, 2016) — Artist and Mystic native Ashley Halsey will sign her new book, Beautiful Songbirds, from 2-3 p.m., Saturday, April 9 at Coogan Farm Nature & Heritage Center, 162 Greenmanville Ave., Mystic.

The book is a celebration of 30 of the most melodious backyard birds found in North America and abroad. Ashley has a long history with the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center, as she took her first watercolor class at the center at the age of 7 with local artist Elizabeth Gaus, with whom she studied for years. Ashley is also a longtime contributor to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center’s annual Natural History Calendar, contributing one or two works of art each year.

In addition to signing her new book, which will be available for sale that day and in the Nature Center Store, Ashley will talk about her artistic process when it comes to drawing and painting wildlife. Following the signing/talk, please join Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center Executive Director Maggie Jones at 3 p.m., for a short walk to listen for those bird melodies. Coogan Farm is home to a number of interesting songbird species, including warblers, finches, bluebirds and thrushes.
