Local author, MJ Soni will be in the library to share her debut novel The Masala Chai Mystery Club. Come and meet the author and take home a signed copy of her book. Manju Soni, pen name MJ Soni, <a href="https://mjsoniauthor.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://mjsoniauthor.com/</a>  is the author of short stories and DEFYING APARTHEID, her part-memoir about being a doctor activist in apartheid South Africa. 
Her debut mystery, THE MASALA CHAI MYSTERY CLUB, published on July 21, 2026 by Crooked Lane Books, follows a retired librarian and her chai-loving friends as they investigate the murder of their despised homeowners association president, whose death echoes that of their latest Agatha Christie book club read.This program is free and open to the public. The lecture will be followed by a book sale and signing. <table><tbody><tr><td>LOVE Where You Read 2026: America 250 — Freedom to Read
As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, we invite artists ages 15 and up to celebrate one of our nation's most enduring freedoms: the freedom to read.
The LOVE Where You Read Art Contest challenges students and local artists to design an original poster that explores the theme "America 250: Freedom to Read." Libraries have long served as places where people can discover new ideas, learn from different perspectives, and access information freely. This year's contest asks artists to reflect on the role of reading, learning, and libraries in a free society. 
Your artwork might explore questions such as:
<ul><li>What does the freedom to read mean to you?</li><li>How do libraries help strengthen our communities and democracy?</li><li>How has access to books, information, and ideas shaped America over the past 250 years?</li><li>What role will reading and lifelong learning play in America's future? </li></ul>
Artists are encouraged to create inspiring, original designs that celebrate both the nation's 250th anniversary and the library as a place of opportunity, curiosity, and freedom. Designs must be two-dimensional and no larger than 11.5"x17.5". Submissions will be accepted starting September 1 through September 25. The winner and artists selected for the exhibit will be contacted by September 30. Winner will receive $250! No entry fee required. 
Whether your vision is historical, contemporary, or imaginative, we invite you to show how the freedom to read connects us to our past, empowers us in the present, and helps shape the future. Rustic-chic private farm venue in scenic Stonington, CT 

Deans Mill Farm 

Built in the mid-1700s as a functioning livestock farm, Deans Mill Farm has gone through an evolution in recent decades. A full renovation of the historic buildings and rejuvenation of the surrounding 70+ acres has made the property into the incredible venue it is today. Deans Mill Farm now operates primarily as a private event space and five-room bed and breakfast tucked down a private road in Stonington, Connecticut. It shares its property with Dragonfly Equestrian Center and is home to dozens of horses. On the property lies meadows, hiking trails, beautiful fields and Dragonfly Disc Golf. The property can be rented for weddings, birthday parties and other special events. Additionally, the bed and breakfast can be rented by the room or reserved in its entirety for complete privacy.
