Sign up to participate in an ongoing, monthly meeting of the Checkmate Society. Players of all abilities in grades 6 &amp; up will enjoy some fun time in front of the chess board learning how to play and making friends. <a href="https://forms.gle/Ln1KqW2XSHxZS7kP8" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Sign-up HERE</a>.
The group will meet in the LOWER LEVEL of the Stonington Free Library monthly from 5:30-6:30 on September 29, October 20, November 17, &amp; December 15. Parents/Guardians must stay in the library.

We judge how we look, speak, act and think, just name a few. Having awareness of these things can help us greatly to access more self love and higher consciousness. When we judge others, we are actually experiencing a mirror effect. Seeing something we won’t or can’t see in ourselves. This class is designed to help you to have awareness and give you tools to help you to navigate your relationships in a way that allows for a greater understanding of self and others. <table><tbody><tr><td>LOVE Where You Read 2026: America 250 — Freedom to Read
As America commemorates its 250th anniversary, we invite artists ages 15 and up to celebrate one of our nation's most enduring freedoms: the freedom to read.
The LOVE Where You Read Art Contest challenges students and local artists to design an original poster that explores the theme "America 250: Freedom to Read." Libraries have long served as places where people can discover new ideas, learn from different perspectives, and access information freely. This year's contest asks artists to reflect on the role of reading, learning, and libraries in a free society. 
Your artwork might explore questions such as:
<ul><li>What does the freedom to read mean to you?</li><li>How do libraries help strengthen our communities and democracy?</li><li>How has access to books, information, and ideas shaped America over the past 250 years?</li><li>What role will reading and lifelong learning play in America's future? </li></ul>
Artists are encouraged to create inspiring, original designs that celebrate both the nation's 250th anniversary and the library as a place of opportunity, curiosity, and freedom. Designs must be two-dimensional and no larger than 11.5"x17.5". Submissions will be accepted starting September 1 through September 25. The winner and artists selected for the exhibit will be contacted by September 30. Winner will receive $250! No entry fee required. 
Whether your vision is historical, contemporary, or imaginative, we invite you to show how the freedom to read connects us to our past, empowers us in the present, and helps shape the future. Rustic-chic private farm venue in scenic Stonington, CT 

Deans Mill Farm 

Built in the mid-1700s as a functioning livestock farm, Deans Mill Farm has gone through an evolution in recent decades. A full renovation of the historic buildings and rejuvenation of the surrounding 70+ acres has made the property into the incredible venue it is today. Deans Mill Farm now operates primarily as a private event space and five-room bed and breakfast tucked down a private road in Stonington, Connecticut. It shares its property with Dragonfly Equestrian Center and is home to dozens of horses. On the property lies meadows, hiking trails, beautiful fields and Dragonfly Disc Golf. The property can be rented for weddings, birthday parties and other special events. Additionally, the bed and breakfast can be rented by the room or reserved in its entirety for complete privacy.
