STONINGTON, CT — The Stonington Historical Society’s annual benefit, The Cannon Ball, will be held on September 11 at Manatuck Farm in Stonington, Connecticut. “Celebrating the Stories of Stonington Farmlands: Past, Present and Future,” sets the theme for the 2021 event.

According to Frances Ashley, president of the Stonington Historical Society, “We are recognizing our valued farmlands because they have played a significant role in the community for generations. Today our local farms continue to make history by setting an example with a new, sustainable course for the future,” said Ashley.

Stonington's native Pequot people practiced farming for thousands of years. The industry has provided not only sustenance but has fostered a way of life close to the land. Farming has also created much of the cultural landscape that characterizes Stonington -- stone walls, open fields, and scenic landscapes.

The 2021 event will be under a tent outside, with safety protocols in place. “The community has so much to be grateful for this year,” said Ashley. “We will celebrate where we have been, where we are going and also recognize the importance of the date in American history.”

The Cannon Ball will include cocktails beginning at 5:30, dinner, a silent and live auction, dancing to music by the Nicky Fabbz Band, and the presentation of the 2021 Hero Award. In person event seating and a "participate at home" option is available for those individuals who prefer to attend virtually.

For guests attending in person, Manatuck Farm will provide a magical setting. The farmlands of Manatuck (the Pequot word for “overlook”) have been in continuous agricultural use for more than 300 years.

The Cannon Ball Co-chairs are Frances Ashley, Kirby Williams, and Kathleen Snoddon. Chris and Barbara Dixon are honorary chairpersons. Suggested attire is “country elegant,” For more information and tickets, visit thecannonball.givesmart.com or call 860.535.8445
