Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P) is accepting applications for grants to fund environmental initiatives in communities served by the company, according to a press release issued this week. The grant amount has been increased by $500 for this go-round.
The deadline for applications is Thursday, September 15. Â Grants up to $1,500 are now being awarded. Â Eligible projects are those that protect, preserve or improve the environment and/or provide environmental education resources.
CL&P’s Environmental Community Grant Program funds community and grassroots environmental projects often overlooked by large-grant programs.
Recent winners include the Southbury Land Trust, which used its grant money to purchase materials for a boardwalk over an environmentally sensitive piece of property and the Youth Volunteer Corps, which built bluebird houses and placed them on Bear Mountain in Danbury.
"We've increased the maximum grant by $500," said CL&P Environmental Team member Patricia Baxa in the press release. Â "That is a lot of money that these smaller organizations can make really good use of and we look forward to receiving their applications."
Applications must be from organizations within CL&P's service territory and should be for initiatives that can be fully funded by the grant without using other funding sources. Projects using funds from other outside sources will not be considered. CL&P’s Environmental Community Grant Program project selection and funding now takes place annually. Â
