In the last legislative session a bill was considered which would allow for medical aid in dying for terminally ill patients. A similar law was enacted in Oregon about ten years ago. Several other states are considering legislation which would allow for compassionate choice. I support such legislation.
It will reduce both physical and emotional suffering for dying patients. And it will always be their choice. On Wednesday, September 4th at 5:30 pm there will be a free viewing of the award winning HBO documentary, "How To Die In Oregon." However you may feel about this issue, I invite you to view movie and see for yourself the difference it can make, not just for others but perhaps one day for yourself.
This is a personal and controversial topic but one worth our attention and care. Our state legislature is set to consider the bill again in the next session. I hope you will support it and join me at Otis Library as well.
