COVID-19 Orange Alert Issued For Stonington

As of November 5, 2020 Stonington has moved from a yellow to orange community, according to a new framework created by the State of CT's Department of Public Health. The framework looks at the total number of new cases in past 2 weeks; then divides that number by 14 to find the average number of new cases per day; lastly, they calculate the rate by dividing by town population and multiplying by 100,000.

Average daily rate = (〖Number of new cases〗∕〖14 days〗)/(Town population)×100,000

At least 42 towns in Connecticut are now considered "Red Alert" towns, which is the highest level alert. This is up from 30 the previous week, which accounts for about 60% of the population of the state.

As new cases are rising significantly across our region and in our Town, we are asking all residents and visitors to please continue to remain diligent in taking all COVID-19 precautions possible. Although there is no singular reason for this increase, LLHD contact tracers have reported that they have observed many instances of family and social gathering connections, as well as sporting events. We know there is a need for healthy, social interactions, but please wear masks and take all necessary precautions to help stop the spread. Please also keep in mind that limiting the people you interact with can help with critical contact tracing efforts.
