Dr. Megan Marco: Sharing The Best Of The West
Stonington Natural Health Center Owner Leaves New England An Emergency Medic And Returns A Holistic Practitioner
Like so many Connecticut natives who venture out into the world for self-discovery, Glastonbury native, Bowdoin College graduate and owner Megan Marco skied her way across the continent but was inevitably brought back to Mystic by the deeply connected roots of family.
As a child Marco’s parents were sailors and she remembers travelling from Glastonbury to Mystic every weekend of the summer for family boating forays to the local sites and coastal islands. She admits she feels as if she’s grown up here and still enjoys going to the water to clear her mind and breathe in the views.
After graduating from Glastonbury High School in 1990, Marco received a Bachelor’s of Arts in Neuroscience and immersed herself in Wilderness Emergency Medicine. Ski patrolling full time, she brought down over five injured recreational skiers daily and sharply honed her skiing and snowboarding skills.

“I wanted to move out west,” Marco said. “I had some friends in Oregon and planned to patrol on Mount Hood but fell in love with Portland.”
The small town turned city girl deeply resonated with alternative West Coast offerings and at the mention of a friend checked out an alternative medicine program in the city. Within three months of arriving, Marco was back in school working toward a master’s in acupuncture.

After graduation, Marco jumped right into her own private practice in downtown Portland, which was thriving.
“I found my niche there.” Marco said. “But, what brought me back here was seeing my parents age—I have these skills and I wanted to help my parents and their friends.” Marco continued, ”I also wanted my son to grow up with family.”
So, in 2004, Marco packed up her West Coast life and headed back to the familiar seaside small village of drawbridge Mystic.
With one successful business under her belt and a treasure trove of unique West Coast products, in 2005 Marco embarked upon opening a subsequent business—Stonington Natural Health Center in Quiambaug Cove.
The Center, replete with herbs, medicinal tinctures, Zen inspired cinnabar accents and soft soothing ambiance, offers a Naturopathic doctor, Stephanie Bethune, two massage therapists and of course Chinese herbs and acupuncture offered by Marco.
Although Marco offers all general services, she has a few areas of specialty, which she’s passionate about: facial rejuvenation and fertility.
With a high success rate in helping couples conceive through use of acupuncture Marco said, “It’s amazing what acupuncture can do for fertility. I had my own fertility challenges which inspired me to focus on this.”
Marco is passionate about healing: ”Multiple times daily, ground breaking things happen for patients in my practice. It’s majorly transformative when people have had pain for 15 years and in a few treatments, the pain is gone.”
When not working, Marco can be found with her husband, Noah, and two sons, Orion and Lynx, taking advantage of all the area’s local family oriented activities.
She can still be found boating over to Napatree Point or continuing the family tradition of boating with her parents.
"My life is a work in progress—I still have some big goals such as writing a book." Marco said, but for now she thrives on healing people and is gratified to transport a bit of West Coast flavor here.
