
Featuring
flutists John Graham and John Curran, accompanied on the piano by Barbara
Speer. The program will consist of light classics, with titles to include the
Valse Gracieuse, composed by Popp, Bach’s Sonata in G Minor, a madrigal by
Gaubert, a menuet by Bizet, Brun’s Romance op. 41, and Golliwogg’s Cakewalk by
Debussy.
John
Graham is a Westerly native with a degree in Music Education from URI. He
studied flute with Gregory Zeitlin, principal flutist of the Rhode Island
Philharmonic. For 30 years he taught music and directed the school band in the
West Warwick public schools. He is presently the flute soloist at St. Augustine
Church in Providence and St. Romuald Church in Matunuck.

John
Curran performed with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra from 1965-2004, served
as Principal Flutist for 10 years with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony
Orchestra, and currently performs with the RI Philharmonic Community Orchestra
and the Ocean State Summer Pops Orchestra.

Pianist
Barbara Speer has been a major contributor to the advancement of piano and
chamber music in the New York metropolitan area. She has performed as a soloist
with orchestras in the US and abroad. She has appeared extensively as a
recitalist and chamber musician in NY at Lincoln Center, Town Hall, and
Carnegie Recital Hall, and the Merkin Concert Hall, where she presented the
world premiere of Stefan Wolpe’s “Blues and Tango” as part of the Wolpe
Centennial Concerts in 2003. Of this debut, the New York Times music critic
praised her “technical finesse, excellent taste, genuine involvement, poetic
understanding and strong structural sense.”
