Former Police Officer Creates Disturbances While Boating: Police

Kenneth Elyosius was arrested multiple times last week. This weekend, he was arrested after an alleged incident near Mystic Seaport.

Bristol resident Kenneth Elyosius, 62, was arrested Saturday, August 1, on a breach of peace after allegedly creating an undisclosed type of disturbance while on his boat in the Mystic Seaport area.

Groton Police arrested him for alleged breach of peace at Noank Shipyard, while Stonington officers arrested him on breach of peace and trespassing in the first degree after the Mystic incident, the Hartford Courant reported.

On Sunday, August 2, the Coast Guard was able to halt Elyosius’ boat after he was allegedly involved in another disturbance while boating in the town of Groton.

Elyosius was arrested on July 29 after reportedly entering Hot Rod Cafe in New London and telling one of owner Rod Cornish’s employees that when he saw the business owner, he was going to kill him, Deputy Chief Peter Reichard said.

A Past History

Elyosius is reportedly well known in the area. On Tuesday, July 28, he allegedly refused to leave the Mystic River after anchoring his sailboat, according to The Day.

He allegedly swore at nearby people who were boating and reportedly refused to move his boat after police requested he move.

Elyosius then left in a smaller boat, which he rowed over to a portion of the river that is in Groton.

Based on the July 28 incident, he was charged with the following:

  • Simple trespass
  • Illegal obstruction of navigation
  • Breach of peace

Police said Elyosius has been given warnings against trespassing, after becoming an unwelcome guest at local business and marinas.
