Fripperies: The Mystic Lingerie Store Turns 19

is the store Mystic women point to when a friend be it male or female needs a little help in the undergarment department.

For women it’s the place you send a friend when the dress for that special occasion needs a little help, the place you tell your friends that will set you up  with a comfortable bra that fits, the place that carries bras with hand-detailing when looking for something a little fancy. For men it’s the place you recommend for a gift, especially when it’s Men’s Night and the store stays open late just for guys.

On June 15, Fripperies turned 19 years old and in those years it has become a store locals count on.

“We started with the mothers and now we have the daughters,” said Owner Deb Jaccarino with a laugh.

Jaccarino a registered nurse in a previous life bought the store from its former owner. She said she found the retail shop interesting and after having kids she didn’t want to work a nurse’s hours.

“The buying is always fun,” Jaccarino said. “The customers are great and it’s a service that is needed here.”

About 80 percent of the customers are locals Jaccarino estimated, but added that it still amazes her how many people come in saying they’ve lived in Mystic their whole life but didn’t realize there was a lingerie store on West Main street.

The customers who do know about Fripperies, however, swear by the store’s Wacoal line. Jaccarino describes it as great for everyday and incredibly comfortable. The store keeps the Wacoal line by the fitting room because, “it’s our tried and true section,” Jaccarino said. “So many people come in and say all they want is a comfortable everyday bra.”

For those looking for something a little fancier Jaccarino points to the Aubade line, which is a European brand with hand detailing. And Jaccarino said many people come in lookingfor  bridal sets, which the store always has in stock

Fripperies also frequently tries out new products such as Pretty Polly Hosiery and the store carries swimwear year-round.

“I love the fashion,” Jaccarino said.
