Gas Prices Are Up This Month

The region is seeing a 5 percent increase at the pumps

The region's gasoline prices have increased by 5 percent this past month, The Day reports, noting that this spike is just a bit below the state's average increase of 5.8 percent.

According to The Day, the average price of a gallon of gasoline in the New London and Norwich areas was $3.62 a gallon in January and now $3.81 in Febrary.

"It's clearly not demand-driven," said James MacPherson, an AAA spokesman, told The Day, referring to the increase. "We're not seeing demand outpace supply by any means. But we have seen reduced output from refineries, and we're also seeing continued unrest in the Middle East and throughout the world."
