Joshua Hempsted is 335 this month and we're celebrating with cake, of course, and a special focus on family history.
The diary he kept from 1711 to 1758 is an invaluable resource for today's historians and genealogists. So we’re hosting two speakers who will discuss research strategies and local resources. New London City Historian Sally Ryan and Katherine Dimancescu, a Hempsted descendant who is working on a book about her quest, will speak starting at 1:30.
You can also see the house where Joshua Hempsted lived (we're open from 1-4) and enjoy cake and lemonade through the afternoon. $5/person or $10/family for the birthday event; regular admission for house tours. Connecticut Landmarks members free.
