Heralded Mystic Doughnut Shop To Close At End Of Year
A Mystic doughnut shop once named among the best in the region has announced it will close.
MYSTIC, CT — Young Bun Doughnuts of Mystic, known for its unique and delicious treats, will close at the end of the year. The owners recently made the announcement on Facebook.
"It is with a heart full of gratitude we share the news that Young Buns Doughnuts will be closing its doors at the end of the year," Young Buns wrote on Facebook. "It’s truly been a pleasure operating our dream of a doughnut shop out of this sweet little spot on West Main..."
The shop's lease is ending and the owners will "streamline our resources and focus on new and exciting opportunities."

This includes their new location of Sift Bake Shop at Mohegan Sun. The company, A.T.Y Hospitality, is also opening A.T.Y Bar & Bonbons at the resort casino. Both are anticipated to open in 2025.

Regarding the Young Buns closure, the owners wrote, "We realize this news will be met with mixed emotions, as YBD has certainly been embraced by many, and we are so grateful for that!"
The owners said the decision was "not made lightly." They said that no one currently working at Young Buns will be losing employment as offers have been made to each worker who'd like to continue with the company.
Gift cards will continue to be accepted at any Young Buns until Dec. 31 and at any A.T.Y Hospitality location after that.
Young Buns' 46 W. Main St. location has also been "rented to an amazing and local Mystic small business."
Sift Bake Shop and Young Buns Doughnuts are both from Chef Adam Young. He has earned numerous accolades over the years, including being a finalist in Food Network's 2017 Spring Baking Competition, winning Food Network's 2018 Best Baker in America award, and being featured multiple times at the James Beard house.
Last year, Young Buns was named on Eater Boston's list of "New England Doughnuts Worth the Drive." It was the only Connecticut doughnut shop to make the cut.
