Here's How Your Home Surveillance Camera Could Help Stonington PD

If you own any home surveillance cameras, you may be able to help Stonington Police in their investigations.

STONINGTON, CT — If you own any home surveillance cameras, you may be able to help Stonington Police in their investigations. According to a post on the department's Facebook page, residents with cameras can join the department's volunteer registry to let police know there is a camera at their home.

"As home surveillance systems become more common, they have proven to be very helpful in a variety of police investigations," police said on Facebook. "In many investigations, time is of the essence, and much time is used canvassing neighborhoods to see if an event, passing car, or other piece of information was captured by a home surveillance camera."

Police said the volunteer registry is part of an effort to streamline this process by allowing investigators to know where cameras are located in town, specifically those that capture public roads. (To sign up for Stonington/Mystic breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

While registry forms were included in alarm registration forms that were mailed out, they may also be obtained at police headquarters.

"If you have a system please consider making SPD aware of it as it may prove very valuable in a future incident," police said on Facebook. "As always, the SPD thanks our community for being our partners in service."
