Kids Painting with Artists - Sunday Art Sampler Workshop

Sundays in July (July 7, 14, 21 & 28) from 10 am - Noon.
Free and open to all.
Come on down, enjoy 2 hours of fun and learning in our popular series of art sampler workshops for

kids and families. Work with the pros - Paint or draw art of your choice with

real artists as your mentors. At the end of each session, participants will have

their own piece of art work to take home. Art supplies will be provided by La

Grua Center.

This popular art workshop for kids and families

was started in 2011 under the leadership of Stonington artist Juan O'Callahan,

who continues to run the classes with the assistance of fellow area artists.

All artists, including O'Callahan, are volunteering their time. This year the

workshops will be offered over four consecutive weeks, allowing participants to

work on a bigger project to-be-finished on the 3rd or last Sunday. Geared

towards children and families, the workshop has attracted kids of all ages,

from teenagers to youngsters sitting on their parent's laps. Some activities,

like working with sculpture, are best suited for kids age 7-11 years old.

The workshop will be able to accommodate about 30 to 40 youngsters at 8 tables

working with 8 or 9 artist coaches. In addition to Juan O'Callahan, the artist

coaches are Tom Frohnapfel, Karin Bastidas, George Baptista, Carmel Bourneuf,

Muireann O'Callaghan, Barbara Ginsburg, Vince Loiacono, Amanda Mead, Dan

Potter, J.J. Sinton and possibly 2 or 3 other artists to be confirmed.

Mediums will be clay (for sculpture), acrylics, drawing with pencils, watercolors, and perhaps cutout collages and other art mediums and new this

year participants will get the chance to create their own hand puppets.

The workshops are offered free of charge and are open to all.
Donations gratefully accepted.
