Make Yours A Legal Beagle ...And Other Breeds!

Stonington is dogged about making sure you license your pooch!

Pretty much every other household in Stonington has a dog. According to Town Clerk Cindy Ladwig, there are 2,223 dogs licensed in Stonington right now. And while it’s not clear how many dogs there are out there that are unlicensed, suffice to say they’re out there. And they need all to be licensed annually.

So Ladwig is reminding dog owners to license their dogs for the 2013-2014 “before a penalty will be imposed beginning July 1.”

In Stonington the cost of a license is $8 for a neutered or spayed dog and $19 for those that are not.

After June 30, by state law, she said, there will be an additional charge of $1 per month for each month that a dog over six months of age is not licensed.

Licenses are available in the Town Clerk’s Office, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Also, licenses may be renewed through the mail with the proper paper work. State law mandates all dogs be licensed every year.  If the dog is not licensed, the dog warden may issue a fine in addition to the cost of the license. For further information call the Town Clerk’s Office at 860-535-5060.
