Man Struck, Injured Construction Worker On I-95 In Stonington: Police

STONINGTON, CT — A Danbury man is accused of striking and injuring a construction worker on I-95 while he was driving drunk, according to state police.

Police responded at 6:32 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a construction worker struck by a vehicle in a restricted construction zone.

The accident happened in the area of exits 91 and 92 in Stonington on I-95 northbound.

A GMC Sierra pickup truck had been driving in the left lane, which had been shut down for the construction project, when it struck a construction worker from behind, leading to minor injuries, police said.

Witnesses said the pickup continued driving north on the highway. Troopers caught up to the vehicle in the area of the Rhode Island state line.

Rhode Island troopers were alerted to the situation and stopped the pickup truck.

The Danbury man was charged with driving under the influence and taken into custody in Rhode Island.

Connecticut investigators have completed an arrest warrant for evading and reckless driving for his involvement in the accident involving the construction worker. The warrant has been submitted to the court for review.
