Maynard and Urban Appointed to Gun Violence Prevention Task Force
The task force will conduct a review of current law and make recommendations on potential legislation to prevent gun violence, enhance school security, and ensure the availability and delivery of mental health services in Connecticut
Connecticut State Democratic Leadership appointed state Senator Andrew Maynard and state Representative Diana Urban to serve on the Special Bipartisan Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention and Childrenās Safety.
āWe must have a conversation about the underlying causes of these violent acts,ā Maynard said. āWe cannot afford to put the safety of our students and teachers at risk. As a member of the Education Committee, I plan to work across the aisle with my colleagues to make sure school security is a chief priority in these discussions.ā
The task force will hold its first full meeting on Friday and hopes to provide recommendations to create legislation by late February.

āI am glad that the Childrenās Committee will be an active part of this task force,ā Urban said. āThe impact of the horrible tragedy at Sandy Hook weighs heavily on the minds of our children and families. A prompt, comprehensive response is a necessity and I look forward to working with my fellow legislative leaders to craft a bill that will help make our precious children safer, and honor the memory of those we lost too soon.ā
