MYSTIC, CT — Mystic Aquarium is saying that pathology reports prove that two beluga whales that were transported to the aquarium from Canada died from diseases that were not preventable, NBC CT reported. The two whales were among five transported from Marineland in Canada last year.

In August, a beluga whale, Havok, died. Then in February, a second beluga whale, Havana, also died. A third beluga whale, Jetta, remains in critical care.

Earlier this month, an animal welfare group asked the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to investigate a complaint against Mystic Aquarium, according to The New London Day. Stop Animal Exploitation Now, or SAEN, asked the USDA to launch an investigation into a "serious violation" of the federal Animal Welfare Act.
