UPDATE July 2:
Spokesman Dwayne Gardner of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection told Stonington Patch that the girls' condition, which we were previously unable to confirm, is listed as "critical but stable."
Original Story: Sunday June 30
An 11-year-old North Stonington girl was seriously injured in a boating accident in Wyassup Lake Saturday.
According to Dwayne Gardner of the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, at approximately 12:45 p.m. Saturday, while on board a 17-foot craft operated by her uncle, the child was "ejected" off and then run over by the runabout ski boat. She sustained head injuries, was transported to Backus Hospital and then flown by Lifestar to Hartford Children's Hospital. Her condition is not known at this time; Connecticut Children's Hospital will not release that information without her name and DEEP will not release her name because she is a minor.
