North Stonington Switched from Blue to Red During 2016 Presidential Election

While the state remained blue on a whole, four towns ended up switching to red for the election this year.

Four southeastern Connecticut towns switched from Democrat to Republican in the 2016 Presidential election, The Day reported.

Support for the Democratic party during this year’s election went down in the towns of Ledyard, Montville, North Stonington and Salem, according to The Day. President-elect Donald Trump won hundreds more votes in each town than both Mitt Romney in 2012 and Hillary Clinton this year.

Clinton drew 1,065 fewer votes in the four towns than Obama did in his 2012 reelection campaign, The Day reported. On the whole, however, the state stayed blue.
