NWS Warns of Possible Pawcatuck River Flooding

Rain is excepted tonight and again on Thursday which could force the river to break its banks

According to the National Weather Service in Taunton, MA, the heavy rain – more than two inches -- that fell overnight has caused flooding on the Pawcatuck River and since additional rainfall is forecasted for this evening and tonight, NWS forecasters are expecting the river to crest at 8 feet tonight and have issued a flood warning until 5 a.m. Wednesday.

Stonington First Selectman Edward Haberek said that while the weather picture is uncertain, the town is paying close attention to the Pawcatuck.

“We are keeping watchful eye on the weather and flood levels,” he said. “We have highway personnel on stand by and will be monitoring the river. It's difficult as weather is still unstable.”
