Pawcatuck Brewery With Deep Roots In Area Will Close

Cottrell Brewing Company is closing its operation after 25 years in Pawcatuck.

STONINGTON, CT — Cottrell Brewing Company will close its 100 Mechanic St. location in Pawcatuck after 25 years, according to a post from the company on Facebook. Founder Charlie Buffum said that they were notified by the owners of the building that the company will need to make way for a new tenant.

Buffum wrote: "We have very much enjoyed our quarter century here and we have a lot to be thankful for, especially all of your patronage and support during that time. We are presently examining all of our options to somehow continue on this wonderful journey into the future, so stay tuned."

The brewery posted last week that it's holding sales as its time comes to a close.

The family has a deep history in the area. In 1855, Buffum's great great grandfather began his enterprise at the same address in Pawcatuck. CB Cottrell & Sons grew to become one of the largest printing press manufacturers in the USA, according to Buffum's Facebook post.
