Pawcatuck Man Charged In Burglary Arrested: New London PD

Police said a Pawcatuck man charged in a New London residential burglary was arrested with assistance from Waterford police.

NEW LONDON, CT — Police said a Pawcatuck man charged in a New London residential burglary was arrested Sunday after his vehicle was stopped by Waterford police.

Police said they received a call at approximately 11:12 a.m. from a New London resident reporting that their home was being burglarized by an unknown man. The homeowner said they saw the alleged burglary taking place on a home surveillance monitoring system, according to a release.

Police said officers found evidence at the home of a forced entry but no sign of the alleged burglar. Officers subsequently sent out a description of the accused.

Officers were contacted by Waterford police a short time later, who said they had a stopped a man that fit the burglary suspect's description on Route 1 at the East Lyme town line, police said. New London officers were quickly sent to the area with photos from the home surveillance camera, police said.

Police said the accused was identified as Michael Algiere, 48, of Pawcatuck, who matched the photos from the surveillance system and subsequently confessed to the burglary. Police said evidence from the crime was recovered and the accused was arrested with the assistance of Waterford police.

The accused was charged with Burglary, Larceny and Criminal Mischief, according to police.
