'To The Person Who Stole From B.F. Clyde's Cider Mill'

A family heirloom that belonged to the family's grandmother was reportedly stolen from the Old Mystic mill.

Update: Missing Cider Jug Comes Back to B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill

Heirlooms are physical representations of a family’s history. For the B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill family, their grandmother fell in love with stoneware crocks and jugs.

“The word got out that she loved them and if you brought an old jug or crock to the cider mill you could get a free gallon of hard cider,” the Old Mystic cider mill posted on Facebook Monday, Sept 21. “That is how every single jug and crock in our mill was acquired.”

With heavy hearts, the B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill family reported via Facebook that an old, stoneware jug went missing and they believe it was stolen. The above photo they shared shows the two empty nails where the stoneware jug used to be.

They sent a message to the person who may be responsible:

“To the person who stole the old stoneware jug from our mill today. To you it was a neat old jug or maybe you figured you could sell it for some money. For us here at the mill it was a part of our family history. Every single jug that hangs in our mill was aquired by my grandmother( 3rd generation to the mill). When she was young and starting out in the cider business she fell in love with the stoneware crocks and jugs.”

‘You Stole a Part of Our Family History’

“I hope you are very proud of yourself because today you stole a part of our family history, not just a jug,” the message from the mill continued. “We cant even bring ourselves to tell my grandmother one of her jugs has been stolen because after losing my grandfather, all of those jugs are part of memories that mean so much to her and it would break her heart.”

Due to the missing jug, B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill staff said they plan on installing video cameras in the mill to protect their family history.

B.F. Clyde’s Cider Mill is located at 129 N. Stonington Rd. in Old Mystic and can be reached at 860-536-3354.
