Police Cite More Than 150 in Click-It or Ticket Campaign

In addition to seat belt violations, police cited drivers for illegal cell phone use.

The Stonington Police Department has announced that after a near-two week Click It or Ticket enforcement operation, officers issued more than 150 citations for violations including failure to wear a seat belt and illegal cell phone use.

Police said 151 citations were issued:

·      102 infractions for failure to wear a seat belt

·      23 cell phone use violations

·      26 miscellaneous motor vehicle violations

And while the enforcement campaign is over, that doesn’t mean officers aren’t still on the lookout for offenders.

“Officers will continue proactive enforcement in all traffic safety areas,” a statement from police read.

According to the US Department of Transportation’s National Highway Safety Administration, statistics show 86 percent of occupants in 2012 wore seat belts – an all-time high. In Stonington, 90 percent wore their seat belts, according to police.
