Poll: Should The Mystic Streetscape Project Stop Until Fall?

Mystic business owners say the ongoing streetscape project could force them out of business, but the Groton Planning Director says a delay could result in higher labor costs. Should the streetscape project stop until the fall?

 

Downtown Mystic business last week to halt the Mystic streetscape project until the fall.

“Just end the project now. Get it out. Get them out of there,” said who owns . He said he lost thousands of dollars in May, is losing hundreds each day in June, and if the project drags on through August, “I’ll probably just fold.”

Business owners say the project is crushing their businesses and jeopardizing the health of the downtown area.

Mystic Streetscape Project Manager to get out of there but unexpected delays have left them unsure of when the project will be complete. Norris said he hopes to give business owners an updated timeline on Friday, June 15. Downtown Mystic business owners are concerned about the continued delays and are worrying that if paving does not begin until June 25 it could go into the July 4 holiday.

“There is delay after delay,” Donna Williston of  said. “It sounds like circumstances are calling the shots.”

According to Groton Planning and Development Director the project for the summer and resuming it in October could have financial consequences and result in higher labor costs.
