CL&P cut off power to the hotel on Dec. 20 due to thousands of dollars in outstanding bills. The hotel remained open, powered by a generator until Dec. 28, when the Town of Stonington closed the hotel due to safety concerns. The hotel was unable to afford to keep the generator running and without a source of power there would be no fire protection or alarm system.

A new restaurant is scheduled to open next week in the hotel. It was unclear Thursday what the status of that is.
