Ruth Crocker Addresses Writers

Author Ruth Crocker to Speak at SECAPA Meeting October 21st

The Southeast Chapter of the Connecticut Authors and Publishers Association will present author and writing teacher Ruth Crocker at its next open meeting, Monday, October 21st at the Groton Inn & Suites, 6:30 PM.
Ruth may be known as the former owner and administrator of Mystic Manor Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, or as chair of the Women & Girls fund of SE CT, or as a board member of the Community Foundation of Eastern CT, or even as portraying Louisa May Alcott and Emily Dickinson in one-woman performances. But, she has also been busy writing for years and has published plays, essays and nonfiction in several venues. She teaches memoir and personal essay writing in workshops locally and nationally. Ruth hopes to be on a book tour next year with her memoir: Those Who Remain: Remembrance and Reunion After Vietnam.
A common question among writers of nonfiction is: should I fictionalize for the sake not alienating the people I’m writing about? At this meeting, Ruth will address this with her topic: “Truth and Consequences: How to write a true story without losing friends and being divorced by your family.” She’ll explore approaches and the results by several well-known writers and open the discussion to participants.
The presentation will follow a brief business meeting at 6:30 PM and refreshments will be served.  For more information contact SECAPA Chairperson Tom Santos by phone at 860-599-5067 or email him at santostom@comcast.net. For more about SECAPA, visit the website: www.secapa.org.
