CT Weather: Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Bring Flooding Concerns

This quick-moving storm has packed quite a punch already and here is what is left to come before it ends.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory for Southern Connecticut until later this morning as thunderstorms and heavy rain move through the area. Rainfall rates have been up to an inch an hour in some areas as the storm rolls through the state now.

"Some locations that will experience flooding include... Bridgeport, New Haven, Waterbury, Norwalk, Meriden, Milford, Middletown, Wallingford, Shelton, Naugatuck, Guilford, Southbury, Wolcott, Colchester and East Hampton," the National Weather Service says.

For Northern Connecticut, the weather service says, "Widespread rain with embedded heavier showers and thunderstorms are to be expected. Some of this activity could produce rainfall rates as high as 2 inches per hour potentially yielding urban and poor drainage flooding. In addition a few thunderstorms may produce localized strong to damaging winds."

The rain and thunderstorms will end around midday and then there could be more storms this afternoon. Dry weather moves in beginning Friday and looks to remain dry through the Fourth of July holiday, but we will be in the midst of a severe heatwave. The heat index could approach and or exceed 100 degrees in Connecticut during the upcoming weekend.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons said, "Heavy rain and thunder this morning followed by cloudy skies and some dry weather midday. Another round of thunderstorms with high humidity for the afternoon with temperatures in the 70s. Clearing tonight! Sunny and hot pretty much sums it up from Friday right through the middle of next week!"
