Smiler's Wharf Project In Mystic Scrapped
The Smiler's Wharf plan to build a hotel, townhouses, and a restaurant in downtown Mystic was withdrawn by developers Tuesday.

MYSTIC, CT—The contentious Smiler's Wharf project has been scrapped by developers, The Day reported. Tuesday a request for one change and master plan approval were withdrawn just hours before a slated Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing on the controversial plan.
The Zone Change Map Amendment Master Plan for rezoning a portion of the Seaport Marine site from a Marine Commercial District to a Neighborhood Development District for a mixed-use waterfront development was withdrawn, according to the PZC.
The plan on the site of Seaport Marina and its environs called for a hotel, apartments and townhouses, restaurant, marine services and parking among other uses. The state Department of Energy & Environmental Protection was opposed to the plan, The Westerly Sun reported in May.
