Spellman: Stonington Should Suspend School Committee Work

Recommending what the school building will be used for in the future is what the committee was tasked to do.

If Stonington Selectman Mike Spellman gets his way, the town will temporarily suspend the work of the committee set up to find future uses for a soon-to-be closed school.

The 115-year-old West Broad Street School is going to be shuttered when the renovation of West Vine Street and Deans Mill schools is finished, according to The Day.

Money for the committee’s study is not in the town’s budget and would require transferring it from somewhere else or including it in the 2016-17 budget.

Spellman’s recommendation is to wait until a new planning director is in place and have that person undertake the study, The Day said.
