Stonington Lobster Trap Tree Returns For 3rd Year
The unique local take on the Christmas tree is back later this month.
STONINGTON, CT — The 3rd Annual Stonington Lobster Trap Tree will be on display Nov. 25 to Jan. 7.
The tree will be lit each night from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.
This year's tree is made up of 461 buoys, including 194 sponsor buoys and 161 artist buoys. Forty of those are created by children, and 23 are devoted to commercial fishermen.

"The architectural masterpiece will be situated on a grassy area at the Stonington town dock, paying homage to the town’s renowned fishing industry," according to the Lobster Trap Tree's website. "A visit to the Stonington Lobster Trap tree is a magical experience and provides unique photo opportunities. Whether you view this spectacle during the day or at night, the beautiful landmark provides an eclectic buoy exhibit that is a flawless balance between stunning professionally painted works and those created by local children."
The lobster trap tree was included in a list of 18 "amazing Christmas trees" by the BBC.
