Stonington Pepper Spray Incident Accidental: Police

Groton Police said an investigation has determined that a pepper spray incident at Stonington High School's prom was an accident.

STONINGTON, CT - Groton Police said an investigation that pepper spray was released accidentally at the Stonington High School prom. A student unintentionally discharged the pepper spray, leading several prom-goers to experience respiratory problems.

"The investigation has determined that this discharge was unintentional and there was no intent to harm anyone at the prom," a police statement reads. "No criminal charges are anticipated."

Three students were hospitalized Saturday night after pepper spray was released into the air at Stonington High School's senior prom at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa.

They were treated at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and released. They are expected to make a full recovery and suffer no long-term effects.
