Summer Vegetables Lingering, Fall Crops Peaking At Stonington-Mystic Farmers Markets
Summer Vegetables Sticking Around For Fall At Farmers Markets

Despite the month, all the rain and the less than desirable temperatures, summer vegetables are still popping up and coming in strong at farmers markets, according to Rick Macsuga of the Connecticut Department of Agriculture.
"The biggest surprise was all the summer vegetables that are still out there," Macsuga said. "It's kind of nice considering what we've been through."
Macsuga said farms are picking plenty of summer vegetables, like cucumbers, summer squash, peppers and eggplant but that they won't or shouldn't be around much longer.
If you want to get those last tomatoes and corn, I wouldn't hesitate, I'm thinking two weeks," he said of the summer crop availability. "There are just too many things against us. There is too much water out there and the plants are just tired."
