The Town of Stonington’s Nonprofit Roundtable group announces the release of ‘The Economic and Social Impacts of Public Charities in Stonington, CT’ study. The study creates a clear picture of the economic impact and quality of life benefits brought to Stonington through the work of local nonprofits. The full report is available online at www.StoningtonEDC.com Chairman of the Stonington Nonprofit Roundtable group, Wendy Bury, was pleased with the completion of the two-year study. “Our local non-profits are vital to our community and collectively have a major impact on the local economy. Services for those in need, sports and recreation programs, arts and cultural offerings, tourism attractions, and educational opportunities add significantly to the quality of life for current residents and to the attractiveness of our community for those looking for a new place to base a business.” The results demonstrate the important role that nonprofits play in our community. “Without many of these organizations here in Town, the cost to taxpayers would be much greater to provide essential services. As residents, we don’t imagine what our community would look like without organizations like the COMO, the Mystic Seaport, NESS, the Salt Marsh Opera, MASH, the Libraries, and the Stonington Historical Society, among many others,” Bury says. “What the study shows is that nonprofits are big business in our community. Often perceived and thought of as always having their hands out, this study clearly conveys that nonprofits give back to the community in large and meaningful ways. Nonprofits provide an extraordinary return on investment that impacts our economic vitality and quality of life.”
