Town Looking to Hire Part Time Zoning Officer
Job pays $24,694 for 17 hours a week.

The job description runs four pages and includes not only the nature of the work to be performed, the qualifications and physical demands required but includes this requirement: “Ability to work harmoniously, cooperatively, and courteously with others at all times. Ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful and/or emergency situations and an ability to adapt to varying work situations.”
And while it is a part time position, the new ZEO would also be required to attend Planning and Zoning Commission meetings which are held twice a month (and sometimes more), which typically run from 7 p.m. until as late as 10 or 11 p.m. as well as monthly Zoning Board of Review meetings.

Now former ZEO Joe Larkin, who worked for the town for two decades and was embroiled in a number of zoning-related controversies over the years, was paid more than $32,000 as the part time zoning official. He recently left the post and took the job as Ledyard’s full time zoning officer.
