Viking Ship Culminates 6 Month, 8,000 Mile Journey by Docking at Mystic Seaport

The crew was recreating the first transatlantic crossing by Viking ships, which took about six months.

MYSTIC, CT – A Viking ship made port at Mystic Seaportafter a more than 8,000 mile journey, The Day reported.

The historic wooden longship, the Draken Harald Hårfagre, left Norway in April and finally arrived at its last stop in Mystic on Sunday, according to The Day. The ship’s design was inspired by a Viking ship built in the 9th century.

The crew was recreating the first transatlantic crossing by Viking ships, which took the contemporary crew about six months, The Day reported. The ship will be open to the public from Monday through Oct. 10 before being covered up for winter.
