MYSTIC, CT—It was a unanimous decision. Tuesday, the Stonington Planning and Zoning Commission blessed a seating expansion plan by owners of the Whaler’s Inn on East Main Street in downtown Mystic, The Day reported on the vote.

According to the PZC Sept. 3 agenda, the Whaler's Inn had requested a Special Use Permit be approved to increase existing seating in the former restaurant from 60 to 100 seats and operate under a hotel liquor permit, with the possible merger of the two lots.

Doing the math: In 2000, a variance was given to the Inn allowing it 94 spots, which is what it said it need for the hotel, restaurant and "retail uses," 40 spaces on site and "credit for 16 nearby on-street spots," which allowed for a waiver of 38 parking spots, The Day reported and PZC documents show.
