Yacht Captain Indicted In Death Of Stonington Boater

A New Jersey yacht captain has been charged in the death of a Stonington boater.

STONINGTON, CT - An indictment charging a New Jersey yacht captain with manslaughter was returned Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Providence, the New London Day reported. The suspect has been charged in the death of a Stonington boater.

Court officials said Cooper "Chick" Bacon, 78, of Cape May, N.J., did not take necessary precautions while at the helm of a yacht on Sept. 22, 2015, according to the New London Day. The yacht was making its was from Newport, R.I., to Stamford at the time of the incident.

Court officials said Walter S. Krupinski, 81, of Stonington was killed after the yacht collided with his 23-foot powerboat, the New London Day reported. The suspect is scheduled to be arraigned in court on Dec. 19.
