Community Group Providing Free Night Safety Reflector Kits

Stratford residents are invited to pick up a set of free reflective bands that can be worn by pedestrians, dogs, joggers and bicyclists, so that they can be seen more easily by motorists during the dusk and evening hours.

Upcoming distribution events for the free reflective safety kits are:

• Saturday, Dec. 30, 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Stratford YMCA.
• Sunday, Dec. 31, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Little Pub at 10 Washington Pkwy.
• Monday, Jan. 1, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Surfside Hotel at 10 Washington Pkwy during the Polar Plunge fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

Each reflector safety kit contains two reflective bands that can be easily worn on wrists or dog collars and two reflective bands that can easily be worn on ankles or arms. Four bands per kit.

Community-Driven

The Stratford Safe Night Safety Program was created by residents, local businesses and community leaders to encourage pedestrian visibility and night safety townwide. The complimentary kits are underwritten by the Rotary Club of Stratford, The Little Pub and Surfside Hotel. The project has been featured on News12 Connecticut, StratfordCrier.com and in Mayor Laura Hoydick’s weekly newsletter.

The idea for the project arose during the Nov. 15 meeting of Stratford Community Conversations, a program open to all residents, businesses and government leaders, which meets every three weeks at various venues to discuss local issues in a positive, non-critical way. The next Stratford Community Conversations is Wednesday, Jan. 10, 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Grace Lutheran Church at 150 Chapel Street.
