STRATFORD, CT — In an attempt to limit possible transmission of the new coronavirus, Stratford's mayor has ordered Town Hall and all municipal buildings be closed to the public effective Tuesday, March 17.

The decision comes after a Wilcoxson Elementary School student was diagnosed with the virus last week and a second potential case involving a Stratford High School student was announced over the weekend. Students and staff at Wilcoxson and Stratford High have been asked to stay home and monitor their health.

“This is a very challenging and unprecedented time, and we are trying to balance the public’s access to needed services and offices with the need to promote public safety by reducing social interaction, which can spread the coronavirus,” Mayor Laura Hoydick said in a news release. “I want to thank the public for their understanding of these necessary precautions as we take every step we can to ensure their safety and the safety of our staff.”

In consultation with town board and commission chairs, the mayor announced previously that all such meetings are canceled.
