Stratford Historical Society presents Antique Lamps and Lanterns

An illuminating evening is promised as Robert Renkowsky presents his program on Antique Lanterns and Lamps. He and his wife will be bringing examples from his collection of 160 full-size and 103 miniature American-made lamps and lanterns. He began his collection in 1963 with the purchase of a miniature lantern while on a trip to Canada and soon was hooked. About ten years ago, he began collecting full-scale lanterns, which he meticulously researches and restores, scouring the country for original parts and shades. His collection includes table lamps, barn lanterns, carriage lanterns, bicycle lanterns, car and truck lanterns. Mr. Renkowsky also will discuss the different types of fuels originally used in his lanterns, including coal oil, signal oil, tallow, sperm whale oil, paraffin, kerosene, and gasoline.

The meeting is open to the public - bring a friend!
Refreshments will be served.
